Well hello there!

After months of deliberating the yays and nays of entering the blogosphere, I've finally decided to take the plunge! The driving factor behind the inception of om nom nom.com was to allow me to share my deep (bordering on obsessive) love of food with anyone who has the slightest interest. Hopefully this will also reduce the amount of food-related jabbering that my poor friends are currently subject to...

Without meaning to sound wanky or pretentious, moving from Brisbane to Melbourne three years ago was definitely a dream come true - the availability of quality produce, the high density and diversity of decent eateries, and the knowledge Melburnians have regarding food is simply amazing. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a supertaster, or always know what imported ingredient is all the current rage, but it's still pretty exciting to be a part of it all!

As a typical unversity student, the majority of places I will blog about will tend to reflect this lifestyle - both socially and fiscally. Having said that, Melbourne is definitely a city which champions the cheap eat: twenty dollars can buy a plateful of finger-lickin' good fried chicken, a hearty stack of wild mushrooms and poached eggs or a crazy good Thai green curry and still leave change for my favourite - dessert.

Speaking of dessert (huzzah!), I thought it fitting I close this opening post with a list of my all-time favourites. Some of these guys are cafe/restaurant quality creations, while others call the supermarket shelves home.
  • Nigella Lawson's chocolate pavlova piled with whipped cream and luscious summer berries
  • Lemon curd or tart raspberry jam on toast
  • Nutella and ricotta cheesecake [Brunetti]
  • Chocolate-coated Tiny Teddies
  • Salted caramel macaron [La Belle Miette]
  • Strawberry gelati [Il Dolce Freddo]
  • A large slice of cherry pie, preferably with the lattice
  • Hazelnut fan slice [Ganache Chocolate]
  • A Golden Gaytime (just the regular garden variety, if you please.)
What dessert do you go back to time and time again, because you know it will never, ever let you down?
